Summer Favorites 2017 | Holistic Melanin
This summer has been wonderful. I've been working on myself and my relationships. I've spent a lot of time cleaning up my space and working to expand my horizons. Since summer is almost over, I thought it would be fun to share the things that I've been loving this season. I decided to switch up and do seasonal favorites instead of trying to squeeze things in each month. Now I might sneak and do some small monthly favorites here and there. However, I like having the time to really enjoy all of the items instead of rushing. Plus, I'm going to categorize everything by whether it does something for my body (B), mind (M) or spirit (S).
Frankincense and Patchouli essential Oils | doTERRA (B/M/S)
Aromatherapy is a huge part of my everyday life. Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that involves using the natural oils extracted from the parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. So aromatherapy is one of the ways that I lift my spirits after a long day, or just boost my mood. My favorites have been Frankincense and Patchouli. Frankincense is one of my favorite oils of all time. I use it in my diffuser, moisturizer, and in my hair.
I have a love hate relationship with patchouli. I love it mixed with other scents, but I'm not a huge fan of it on it's own. Patchouli is a grounding oil, so it's good to use when your emotions are running high. It's also good for promoting glowing skin, no pregnancy required. It also makes a really nice soap, which brings me to my next favorite.
Zum Bar Patchouli and Orange | Indigo Wild (B)
I fell in love with the woodsy smell of this soap. I honestly want this scent to be what people smell when I walk into a room. It's just an earthy smell, that is strong enough to make itself known but not overpower anything else. You get the woodsiness of the patchouli with the light bursts from the orange. I do want to try the frankincense patchouli bar but this is definitely a holy grail for my collection.
Om Aromatherapy Diffuser Necklace | AromaLove London (M/S)
I picked this up as a birthday present to myself. I've been dealing with a lot of stress at work recently and wanted to be able to smell my oils at all times. So I ordered this locket from Amazon. This company had a few different styles and finishes, but I ultimately went with the silver om design. I switch out the pads inside to inspire me to work with a specific chakra.
Crown Oil | Sistren and Seed (B)
Time for another holy grail item. I mentioned in my loc video that I had changed up how I was taking care of my locs this go around. Before I was using a leave-in conditioner that I was using on my loose natural hair. While it did smell good it was weighing my locs down and making the locking process take longer. This time I'm using water and aloe vera as a leave-in and the Crown Oil to seal in the moisture. This oil smells amazing! I legitimately smell like a walking yoga studio. It's got frankincense, patchouli and a few other oils mixed into a carrier oil. My locs aren't weighed down, but are still moisturized the next day. And no spots on my clothes.
Sarah J. Maas (M)
So if you swipe through my Kindle or take a peak at my bookshelves, you'll see that my book taste varies. I have cook books, self-help books, spiritual books, books about Kemet, romance, and fantasy. Lately I've been reading and rereading all of my books by Sarah J. Maas. I've read both the Throne of Glass series and the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, the latter being my favorite. She does a wonderful job of weaving her tale, sucking you into the stories and making you root for certain characters. I've gone as far as to read each book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series in 28 hours or less.
Aloe Vera (B)
I use aloe vera in a variety of ways. I use the juice as a facial toner. You can also use it as a primer for your makeup. I also use aloe vera juice or gel on my locs. It keeps my locs moisturized for a few days, which is better than using plain water on my hair. And my little plant adds some greenery and life to my room. I've never really tried to take care of a plant before, but I'm learning.
Well that's is all of my favorites for the current season. Let me know what your favorites have been for the summer. Until next time, keep moving down your path one step at a time.
